|10:16 am - Yesterday was a hellaofa day|
I hate insurance. Hate Hate Hate. I drove to downtown LA yesterday mid afternoon, down the clogged 10 freeway. Its 3 o'clock, all lanes moving at a swift 15 mph. My head is about to explode. I can't even begin to go into the place I received medical treatment. I was positive the parking lot was going to lock me in and tow me away. The place was half church have prompt care. I am not sure why I couldn't come till 3pm, there was NOBODY there. I don't think I have ever been the only one at a prompt care service, in the Middle of downtown LA, in the middle of flu season. The only thing you could hear was the screaming baby in the pediatrics service....
She told me I have a ear infection, viral infection, and skin infection. Fun! And a swollen gland that is so big that if it doesn't go down she wants me to get a biopsy on it.
All and all I walked out with 6 prescriptions. Including one for codine cough syrup, with one refill, for the cough in her words " that I am going to have" Got to the pharmacy to find out I would have to wait an hour. got them filled except the pain killer.
Started taking the antibiotic, ear stuff and hoped to get better. Last nite it got worse. Fever shot up and just generally miserable. Today, a bit better. Thank god, cause if I don't get back to sewing, I am going to get worried!!!!
LA Traffic is a special kind of hell. A friend once told me "Don't fight it. You'll get brain bubbles." (he was talking about the constant bad techno at Burning Man, but, it applies to so much else in life)
Become one with the surface streets in LA. Some freeways are good, some are ok, some are HORRIBLE. Specifically, avoid the 405, 10, & 110 at all costs. Especially during the daylight hours. Even at night (after 9pm) I think twice about taking the 110 or the 10. There's been a lot of construction lately at night.
For instance; Google Maps says I should take this route from work (A) to home (B): http://tinyurl.com/5fg7e4
21.5 Miles, 27 Minutes (up to 1 hour, 10 minutes in traffic)
But this is the route I actually take: http://tinyurl.com/6p2b3e
15.2 miles, 31 Minutes.
Good Luck! (ps, feel better)
Yes it is a special kind of hell. I have a joke that I was born in traffic. I grew up here. The 405 will always have a special place in my heart. And actually i have a fondness for the 405 carpool lane. Its fun to actually bypass people! I have been taking side streets more but yesterday I just had to somehow drive, the freeways were a little more brainless then side streets for me.
Thanks, Im trying. i don't know how many more naps I can take or how much TV I can actually watch anymore!

This is where that codine cough syrup comes in handy. ;)
Last time I had strep my doctor prescribed me "The Big Bottle". He said "This stuff lasts forever. Just keep it in your medicine cabinet for the next time you or one of your friends needs it." It knocks me out when I'm sick and I wake up feeling better usually.
